Debating your top style? This blog post will show you side by side how a table style is transformed by the top style selection. Here we have three Harris Trestle tables crafted out of Natural Walnut hardwoods with varying top styles. Today we will highlight the difference between Seamless Slab, Farm Rough Sawn, and Live Edge top style selections.
Seamless Slab Top Style
Our Seamless Slab tops are 1.5” thick and constructed without a wood skirt or frame. Each board runs the length of the entire dining table and is joined together to create a seamless, smooth top. The Seamless Slab looks like one clean, solid piece of wood.

Farm Top Style
The “Farm” Top is built to a generous thickness of 2 3/4″ inches. The farm top is constructed on a frame or skirt with visible seams between each board, and cross boards on each end that we refer to as the breadboards. Rough Sawn specifically has noticeable seams, uneven boards, and has blade marks. The Rough Sawn texture will be a little different with every tabletop – depending on the species and the boards.

Live Edge Top Style
The Live Edge average top thickness ranges between 1.5”-2.5” depending on the available slab and finishing process. When you’re customizing a Live Edge top you have the option to choose either Standard Supplemented or Premium Multi Flitch.
- Standard Supplemented – This consists of a standard seamless slab tabletop with Live Edge edges crafted to the sides of the table. By selecting this option the customer is trusting our craftsmanship to build a beautiful table. There is no upgrade in price.
- Premium Multi Flitch – This consists of either a Bookmatched selection or 3 Flitch depending on availability. Bookmatched consists of 2 mirroring grain pieces of wood from the same tree. Three Flitch is 3 flitches from the same tree. Learn more about Live Edge customization options here!
